چکیده

In-depth temperature measurements of wood samples using thermocouples are commonly performed in fire research at all scales. However, the size or type how they placed sample can lead to measured being significantly different. In this work, an original method combining thin wire with a meticulous implantation, was used provide accurate measurement in-depth during their degradation. Wood were thus equipped both embedded (0.1 mm diameter) and sheathed (1 installed perpendicularly parallel conductive heat flux compare results between two kinds measurements. Afterwards, exposed cone calorimeter different fluxes (from 16.5 kW.m−2 93.5 kW.m−2) order measure mass loss The smallness high flexibility enabled without affecting measurement. This is usually not possible when thermocouples, because stiffness. Results showed that it crucial rigorously control thermocouple as underestimation up observed for put near surface flux. There several reasons difference: sink due through body, poor contact sensor uncertainty about actual position thermocouple. char front evolution deduced from by found comply direct layer on samples. Finally, charring rate obtained function follow affine law.

Factors Influencing the Charring Rate of Chinese Wood by using the Cone Calorimeter

Wood has better load-bearing capacity following the formation of a char layer when exposed to fire. The charring rate is the most important property of wood with respect to its fire resistance and fire integrity. The objectives of this study were to determine the effects of factors, including density, gas permeability, ring width, grain orientation, and heat flux, on the charring rate. The char...

A New Temperature Distribution Measurement Method on GPU Architectures Using Thermocouples

In recent years, the many-core architecture has seen a rapid increase in the number of on-chip cores with a much slower increase in die area. This has led to very high power densities in the chip. Hence, in addition to power, temperature has become a first-order design constraint for high-performance architectures. However, measuring temperature is very limited to on-chip temperature sensors, w...

clay reinforcement using geogrid embedded in thin layers of sand

large size direct shear tests (i.e.300 x 300mm) were conducted to investigate the interaction between clay reinforced with geogrids embedded in thin layers of sand. test results for the clay, sand, clay-sand, clay-geogrid, sandgeogrid and clay-sand-geogrid are discussed. thin layers of sand including 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 and 14mm were used to increase the interaction between the clay and the geogrid...

Single Supply Temperature Sensing with Thermocouples

Thermocouples are constructed of two dissimilar metals such as Chromel and Constantan (Type E) or Nicrosil and Nisil (Type N). The two dissimilar metals are bonded together on one end of both wires with a weld bead. This bead is exposed to the thermal environment of interest. If there is a temperature difference between the bead and the other end of the thermocouple wires, a voltage will appear...
